2008 First Day of School

The best way to prepare for the first day of school was to have a morning devotion. Erica read the devotion from the devotion book after breakfast.
Each year on the back porch we try to get individual and group pictures. This is Emily's senior year.
Mark, what are you thinking letting the 7th through 12th graders take the car on the first day of school???!!!
Anna and Abigail wore their sweat shirts from Washington, D.C. because of how cold the first day of school was (Sept. 3) It was a great day.

Erica's 15th Birthday Party

Erica invited friends over for a sleep over 15th Birthday party. 15 candles in the cake!
Does this mean that Erica's a queen?
The camp fire was going and the girls had a fun time in the dark playing some games (hide and seek?)
As the evening progressed they returned to the living room for a time to chat. Happy Birthday Erica!

Isaac got out for a round of golf at the Hibbing Municipal Golf Course before school started. A few days later, Mark, Isaac, Emily, Anna and Abigail got out for an evening round. Seems like Isaac is enjoying the exercise!
We got a family membership at the golf course this summer. Unfortunately only Emily and Isaac used it much. Good for them!
Isaac enjoyed this end of the year sleep over with his two buddies, Thomas and Reuben Bonk. They are ALL boy!

Anna & Abigail enjoy friend Hannah Kivela

One last hurrah before the end of the year. Hannah Kivela comes over for the evening and sleep over.
A little night time swinging in the back yard.
Nothing like some marshmellows over the back yard fire pit.
Beth brought the girls to the local Greyhound Historical Center where there was a great display of roses. Take a deep breath.

Isaac was the deck hand and got us off to some good fishin.
We caught a few in the first half hour or so, but then as the sun started to go down the crappies started a feeding frenzy where they actually caused the water to ripple. FUN!
Abigail is helping Anna with this northern she caught.
Isaac caught this nice bass.
The next morning we enjoyed some blueberry pancakes thanks to the Feyos as we needed an early start home.

Cookout and fishing at the Feyos

August 24 after worship services in Hibbing and Cedar Valley we all (except Emily who had swimming the next morning) drove south to Uncle Bill and Aunt Pat Feyo's lake home on Clear Lake beside Glen, MN (about 6 miles north of Mille Lacs Lake). We had a yummy grill out and corn on the cob and marshmellows over the fire.
All the girls including Beth took some time in the kyaks (nice neighbors let us use them).
The hammock was a winner in these guys smiles.
After supper, we headed out to the other side of the lake to check out if the fishing was as good as Uncle Bill said it would be. Another nice neighbor let us use their big pontoon!

Baptisms - the gift of receiving God's name and all that It gives!

Each year I am privileged to be able to baptize 10-20 people into the gracious name of our eternal God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
In two successive weeks in August (24th and 31st) we had these two babies baptized into God's eternal family.
It is not only a joy, but a solemn responsibility on my part and the congregation's part to nurture the life and faith begun in the waters of baptism. It regularly reminds me of my responsibility as a Christian parent to my children and God-children.

End of Summer Garage sale

It was a cold day as August was coming to a close. Beth rallied the troops and we got a bunch of "stuff" outside.
Staying warm was a part of the game today. With a nice sign up on 1st Street, we had various lookers and even some buyers!
Erica took a little time on the tree swing while Emily took everyone's money (smile). Actually about 4 pans of brownies, coffee and cool-aid were sold to help the bottom line.

Emily and Erica were having so much fun, they didn't know what to do....

Trial Senior picture time for Emily

Dad talked Emily into taking a few pictures to help her prepare for her senior pictures.
We went over to the church. Put up a few different bed spreads on the wall. And...
We took a bunch of pictures...
Emily put on a couple different outfits. Braces came off this year, just in time for senior pics!
