We arrived at our camp site on Thursday, July 24, Isaac's birthday. We stayed on the same island that Mark and Todd stayed with their dad 35 years earlier, probably almost to the day. This time the tent was a little more comfy, a ten man for 5 of us and a cot for each person. We made it out to Linda's Rock for an hour of evening fishing (got 2 walleyes and a northern and a bass). There were a zillion misquitos that evening trying to finish setting up camp and clean the fish.
The day after isaac's birthday, the big birthday gift arrived: first a 25 inch 5 lbs walleye, then fifteen minutes later a 26 inch 6 lbs lunker. Can you tell from the picture - Isaac was smiling - ended up being the biggest fish of the trip (in addition, Jake got a nice 5 lbs northern the last day). The walleyes were hitting great at the Sunken Island. We really didn't want to leave, but one of the plans for the trip was to get on our GPS's the locations of several walleye fishing sites. So off we went.
Here's the 5 & 6 pound walleyes along with three others (we caught about ten that morning).
Grandpa is giving the gandsons some tips on cleaning walleyes. Can you see the electric knife in Grandpa Palmer's hand - thanks to a converter at the cigerette lighter on the boat and a long extension chord!
